Starting from the Basilica of Sant’Eustorgio, for centuries a place of pilgrimage, for part of the relics of the three Wise Men are still preserved in here. The Portinari Chapel here is worth a visit: painted by an early Renaissance artist, Vincenzo Foppa, it contains the charming Ark of St. Peter Martyr by Giovanni Balduccio, the leading artist of Gothic sculpture. Continuining to the Darsena, the ancient Port of Milan, will clearly emerge as the cuty - from the Middle Ages to XX century - was crisscrossed by a thick network of canals, used for the transportation of goods and supplies as well as for irrigation. owever in the 1930s most of the canals were covered, and the Navigli is nowdays the only district where Milan with its waterways looked like in the past. The "Navigli District" is bohemian, full of bookshops, artists’ studios, “ringhiera” style buildings and wine bars.
